The terms Isolation and Quarantine have become part of our everyday vocabularies. Quarantine is for those that might have been exposed, to make sure illness does not develop and spread, whereas Isolation is for keeping those that are infected away from those who are well. Regardless, the purpose is to stop the spread of illness to others. The CDC updates their guidelines for COVID-19 quarantine and isolation procedures regularly. At the time of this posting, below are the recommendations for when you may end a quarantine or period of isolation to be around others.
If you think you have or know you have COVID-19, you can resume being around people from outside your household, while continuing to social distance and wear masks when:
- 10 days after your symptoms have appeared AND
- You have gone at least 24 hours without a fever (not including period of using fever reducing medications) AND
- Other symptoms of illness are improving
If you tested positive, but had no symptoms, you can resume being around people from outside your household, while continuing to social distance and wear masks when:
- 10 days have passed since your positive test
