Fighting the Flu with your Diet!

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, right? Well… it might be a good start!

An important part of having good health is fighting off illnesses- like the flu. According to an article on the National Center for Biotechnology Information website, a plant nutrient called Quercetin, found in fruits and vegetables, is particularly good at helping you fight off the flu! The article explains how anti-viral use of Quercetin helps prevent flu infection by making it difficult for the flu virus to enter cells.  So even if you’ve already had your annual flu shot, consider using the foods you eat as part of the effort to keeping healthy!

Parents, get your kids involved in the process of becoming Flu Fighters by teaching them how to make food choices that potentially supercharge their already the super-powerful bodies with flu resistance! Kale-ify smoothies for breakfast on the go. Make broccoli a staple dinner side-dish. And if you’re into Elderberry syrup, go ahead and drizzle that onto fruit salad for dessert! Don’t forget the power of snacking on an apple!
