Medac Urgent Care offers testing for the active COVID-19 infection and COVID-19 antibody testing. Please read below for information on both types of testing.
COVID-19 testing and Antibody testing available 7 days a week from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM! Walk-ins welcome!
What is a COVID-19 Test?
A nasal swab that tests for the active COVID-19 infection.
Who should take a COVID-19 Test?
Patients who have upper respiratory symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath) and are concerned that they have COVID-19.
How long does the COVID-19 test take?
The test requires a nasal swab, and the sample is sent to a commercial laboratory for testing. Results are usually received within 5 business days.
COVID-19 Antibody Testing
What is a COVID-19 antibody test?
COVID-19 antibody tests use a blood sample to check for proteins in the immune system, known as antibodies. If these antibodies are present, then it means that a person was exposed to the virus and developed antibodies against it, suggesting that the patient has some sort of an immunity at the time of the test. Our test looks for the IgG antibody.
Studies have not confirmed how long that immunity lasts.
COVID-19 antibody tests do not diagnose the active virus.
What are the benefits of antibody testing?
The key benefit is that the test will tell you if you have built up the “immunity” or antibodies to fight COVID-19.
Who should take a COVID-19 antibody test?
Patients wanting to know if they have developed any immunity to COVID-19
How long does the COVID-19 antibody test take?
The test requires a blood draw, and the blood sample is sent to a commercial laboratory for testing. Results are usually received within 2 business days.
Where can I get either of these tests?
All COVID-19 testing is available at all centers.
How much do these tests cost?
For patients concerned about symptoms or exposure to COVID-19, please visit a center where one of our Providers can evaluate the need for diagnostic and antibody testing. Your insurance will be billed for this visit and we have affordable self-pay options for our patients without insurance. PathGroup, our third party lab partner, has stated that for these specific COVID-19 and COVID-19 antibody lab tests, patients (with or without insurance) will not have any out-of-pocket responsibility as stated by the CARES Act.
